Trauma and Brain Spotting

Over the past two weeks I have seen clients with varying amounts of trauma. I have noticed that in the world there seems to be many ways that people relate to their trauma. Some try to ‘push through’ while others let it define their life, still some will say that it was their fault that this event happened. All of which are not solely the truth and/or the way to summarize an event that has had a profound effect on your thinking and the way you live life in this world and your relationships. Trauma is complex to say the least and at best there will be people in your life that allow you your feelings and a time and space to process it all(this can take months, years and possibly a lifetime).

For me, I have found a method that seems to bring relief and eventually a change for my clients. That method is Brain Spotting. Here are just a few facts to help you understand it.

  1. Unprocessed trauma is stored in the brain. Your body does not know time and so, when something triggers your memory of the trauma, it feels that experience and the emotions that are associated with that event as if it is happening again.

  2. The eyes are literally the ‘window to your brain’, directly through your retina to the back part of your brain.

  3. When Brain Spotting, there is an ‘activation’ place that your eyes go to as you are remembering this event.

  4. As the therapist, I can help you find that activation spot and walk you through your story of trauma in a way that what does not get rid of the memory of this event, but can get rid of the bad feelings or emotions associated with it…it becomes a memory instead of a problem.

Please reach out if you feel like a session of Brain Spotting might help you move through an event in your life that often leaves you feeling ‘stuck’ or highly activated. I’d love to help!
